1. The section of line between Euxton Junction and Maudland
Viaduct is duplicated in the Western Lines North Sectional Appendix.
2. Bolton West Junction was an early power signal box and controlled a
triangular junction.
3. When the station reopened platforms were not provided on the Westhaughton
branch.
When first opened, trains between Salford and Bolton ran on the right hand track.
The nearby L&NW station at Great Moor Street station was replaced by a new 4 platform station on 28.09.1874. This new station was on a higher level than the original station. Prior to this date there appears to have been a physical connection with the Lancashire and Yorkshire line near Trinity Street station. Some sources deny that such a connection existed, but it is clearly shown on early OS maps. Although the running of actual trains between the two routes would have been impossible, wagons could have been exchanged via a siding and a small turntable.
Poulton and Wyre Railway
Society Working towards their goal of reopening the line from Poulton to
Fleetwood.
Blackrod Station Very informative
site detailing the history and workings of this once busy junction.
